Just had a nice passionate chat with two engineers about public transit and the intercracies of flooring. Meanwhile, I’m visiting Antioch College...what is interesting/must try/see in the Dayton/Cincinnati area?

The National Air Force Museum in Dayton. Its free (sorta) , paid by your tax dollars. Its huge and the cafeteria is basic but not bad. If you want to see Presidential plane hangar get there early because it requires a special sign-in with ID and the number of visitors is limited.

Depending on how far you want to or can go, the Canton Classic Car Museum is pretty awesome. I went there last year while I was in Cleveland for a couple of weeks. It’s about 3 hours from Dayton, though. There’s also the National Packard Museum in Warren and there looks to be another Packard Museum in Dayton.

The Holy Hand Grenade Department at that college, I’ve heard, is pretty wild

The Air Force museum at Wright-Patterson AFB is definitely worth a visit.

I’ve spent some time in the Dayton area on work trips and it’s actually not that bad of an area, despite its reputation. There are some pretty decent restaurants in the area, too. I liked the Carillon Brewery, it’s set up as part of a historical park and you can watch them brew as you eat.

Check out the Air Force Museum. And you can always go see Lake Jesus (I’m sure the locals have another name for him) at the church off I75 near Monroe.

Antioch is NE of Dayton proper near Yellow Springs, OH. YS has a well-earned reputation as a very ‘alternative lifestyle’ friendly town. Fairborn is the closest city, but Dayton covers a large metro area and everything is fairly easy to access.

Despite what people who have never been here have to say, Dayton is a very nice place to live. Everything is cheap. You can find really good quality if you look for it. The people are nice. There is a huge arts scene for such a small city. The shopping options are plentiful and you can find some of the more important name brands scattered around. The Greene is a good out-door style mall. And getting to Cincy or C-Bus takes about an hour should one want for even more culture.

And you can thank Dayton for the Wright Brothers, the self-starter (Charles Kettering), NCR, and a numerous other important contributions to the modern world.

Esssix answered this, but it is the best portable audio player 100 hard earned dollars can buy. And plus it can play lossless stuff. And lossless music is awesome.

Would Yellow Springs be like the Berkeley of Ohio? Or is it beyond Berkeley?

shrugs. I have no no idea what Berkley is like. But, you can very likely score some maryjoowanna in YS, should you want to find it. Rumor also has it that many of the local kids born in the 60s and 70s do not have birth certificates because their parents were leery of ‘The Man.’ Which makes getting official IDs problematic. There is also a restaruant called Ha Ha Pizza in Yellow Springs...
